Outreach to the community is an important part of the focus of South Bay Ballet. Over the past years, South Bay Ballet has provided free and reduced price tickets to live ballet performances to disabled and disadvantaged youths, adults and other underserved populations in order to increase their access to the Arts. These deserving individuals have attended the final dress rehearsals for our yearly Nutcracker and Storybook Ballet. South Bay Ballet strives to warmly welcome diverse audiences in order to fulfill its mission to bring high-quality arts to the largest possible audience across the Southland.
A few of the organizations that have participated in our Outreach Program include Pediatric Therapy Network, The Friendship Circle, Johnathan Jaques Cancer Center, Richstone Family Center, The Wonder of Reading, The Boys and Girls Club of LA Harbor, Rainbow Services, Peace for Kids, Ride to Fly, Walk with Sally, Belmont Village, St. Annes, Precious Lamb, and Habitat for Humanity. And we are constantly working to bring new organizations into the program.
An additional goal for the outreach program is to foster a spirit of community service in the over eighty pre-professional dance students that belong to the South Bay Ballet Company. These dancers range in age from 4-21. The outreach performances provide these dancers with an opportunity to give back to the community and to advance their understanding of individuals different from themselves.
We would like to thank Target Corporation, The Los Angeles County Supervisors and Supervisor Don Knabe, Steve and Francesca Townsend, The Los Angeles County Arts Commission, and the Employees Community Fund at Boeing Corporation for their generosity in helping to underwrite the cost of our outreach program.
