Diane Lauridsen

Artistic Director

For more than thirty years, Diane Lauridsen's artistic vision has gracefully guided South Bay Ballet as it continues to grow as one of the premiere pre-professional dance companies in the United States. Season after season, her imaginative and innovative programming has continued to inspire Southland audiences. A hallmark of Diane's has been her collaborative spirit which has fused the art of dance with such foremost choreographers as Balanchine, John Taras, Gerald Arpino, and Onna White, among countless others. Diane has opened the door for tomorrow's dancers by way of the Lauridsen Ballet Centre, where hundreds of young dancers are able to experience the joy of dance for themselves. A master teacher, Diane is committed to developing dancers with a rich curriculum that has its foundation in traditional classical techniques enhanced by cutting-edge anatomical and kinesthetic principles. Her well-regarded reputation has earned invitations as guest faculty at many pre-professional academies including Studio Company American Ballet Theatre, Ballet la Jeunesse, Riverside Ballet Arts, among others. She has also served as a guest master teacher and judge for the South American Ballet Competition at the Festival Du Mercusol in Rio. Through the years, scores of dancers that have trained in the Centre have gone on to dance professionally as members of distinguished dance companies here at home, and around the world. In addition, year after year many of South Bay Ballet's members are admitted and awarded scholarships to prestigious summer training programs of professional ballet companies. Diane is a member of the Board of Regional Dance America, the Arts Council of Torrance, and DRC of Los Angeles. Diane and South Bay Ballet are committed to continuing a long-standing tradition of presenting original and entertaining works to Southern California audiences with a professional level artistic experience.
